Hans Zatzka was an Austrian artist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is considered one of the most well-known representatives of Salon painting. His works were highly popular during his lifetime, widely reproduced, and often depicted mythological scenes, angelic beings, and graceful female figures. From a young age, he received commissions for numerous churches, residences, and art galleries, and his academic-artistic style continues to make him a sought-after painter of the Viennese Historicism movement.
